There’s no mistaking that at a wedding, the bride and what type of dress she is wearing is what everyone anticipates as the wedding party makes their way down the aisle. At the reception…it’s all about the cake! (Well that’s my favorite part!) How tall was the cake? How many tiers? What flavor is it? (ok that’s me again) AND finally what’s on top of the cake?
Cake toppers date back about 100 years. The story goes that a daughter of a baker was getting married. She asked her dad to make some symbol of love between her and her groom that everyone could see. This is where the first bride and groom figurines appeared on top of the cake.
For my wedding back in 1998, I opted for no corny figurines and went for fall flowers to match my fall themed wedding. Now those corny figurines are vintage and making a comeback.
This day and age, the sky’s the limit for anything you want to do at your wedding. Gone are the days of this cookie cutter formula that couples have to follow. The door is wide open for creativity and personalization which frankly makes weddings more fun and memorable.
